My Mother’s Wisdom About Skin Care

Hyperpigmentation - Ame Skin Studio - Vit C

I grew up seeing my mom juggling her busy life raising 2 daughters, working full time and studying for her PHD in Math & Science at night.

Amidst all that, she was always smiling and finding time to take good care of her skin.

She would never go to bed with makeup on, she never skipped sunscreen & always used her Vitamin C serum.

To me that was as normal as seeing her brushing her teeth!

Me on the other hand, looooved to surf and tan the heck out of my skin.🤦🏼‍♀️

Ohhhh, I wish I had listened to my mommy!

My mom also made sure we were aware of our overall health, like healthy eating and exercise.

I remember some of the advice my mom always *tried* to teach us:

- “Girls, beware of too much sun because it makes your skin leathery.”

- “Girls, massage your skin upwards, massage and exercise your boobs too - gravity’s unforgiving!🤣

But we were two stubborn girls and we did not listen. 🤦🏼‍♀️

Now, I asked my mom to define beauty and her answer was:

- “Beauty is beyond physical characteristics.

My definition of beauty includes deeper values.

Your beauty comes from within.

Being healthy, being grateful, loving life & respecting others.”

My mom has a beautiful aura! Her beauty comes from living true to who she is. She has a self-assured grace that emits from the inside out.

Skincare and self love can bring moms and daughters together in a special way. It can be used as a bridge for bonding.

My mom was thrilled when I decided to change careers to became an Esthetician!

“Now you will understand how all those years of my self care paid back”, she said

She’s 75, her skin is still glowing, much more than mine🤨.

I still learn from her every day and I’m blessed to be able to pamper her with skin care as much as she wishes. 🥰

Proper skincare should be one of the things mothers and daughters - and even grandmothers - should take time to talk about.

The wisdom of cross-generational experiences, concerns, and observations can often be very helpful.

The key is to listen to each other, share experiences, and talk about concerns in an encouraging and supportive way, after all... we all deserve some pampering!

Happy Mother’s Day, Everyone!
